How to Fly a Presa Canario Puppy in Cabin on Airplane
Presa Canario Puppy Flight 1 LAX to SJU:
We have the privilege to directly fly our Presa Canario puppies to our loving clients. Flying puppies in cabin with us on the airplane is a much less invasive process for the puppy as they never leave our side. As we enter the airport and figure the time, we will need to board the craft, our puppy is attached to us in their pet carrier. Before the flight we will make sure the puppy has relieved themselves in the pet restroom area. Luckily for us and the puppy, they have been trained previously to use the restroom on command. This makes the time we spend in the puppy restroom area very efficient and not a frustrating issue. Some of the flights can be 7 hours or longer and we do not want to have a puppy with a tummy ache at 35,000 feet in the air.

An interesting flight with SoCalPresa Kong was a 14-hour two flight trip from Los Angeles to Puerto Rico. Our impeccable training and close bond made the flight relatively easy for us and our puppy. Kong could feel our positive affirmations and never made any sounds or movement of discontent. His patience for the flight and through the airports was impeccable. We are often surprised how our consistent training day and night plays such a big part on the trip. The endless nights of the puppies waking up, needing to use the restroom, and us sending them out with a command to relieve themselves, is instantly paying off.
The long trip was even more exciting when our client got to meet his puppy. Kong was not going to automatically bond with this stranger to him, so we had to coax him and his new dad to understand this. We decided to move about the city of San Juan in order to acclimate Kong to his new location and family. Quickly we could notice that Kong was absorbing the island and his family to his great enjoyment. The Presa Canario puppy will show his true colors in a foreign area. You will notice their demeanor change by their tail position and general movement in any case. A positive attitude should be rewarded by calmly petting the body, along with a relaxing and confident voice.
A presa canario that is not confident should be thought of as a scared child in a psychological manner. We want to speak to them confidently, comforting them forward, and immediately rewarding them as they progress with high excitement through your touch and voice. These are the building blocks of Kong and his presa canario siblings from the start.
Presa Canario Puppy Flight 2 LAX to JFK:
A male presa canario puppy "Tank", from Taz & Negra was scheduled to fly to his family 2 weeks before Christmas. Our training has stayed relatively the same with this litter, allowing us to have another flawless delivery. Tank was delivered around the 11-week age, so he was enormous, and barely met the restrictions of size, for the carry-on pet. If he was any larger, we would have needed to pay for an entire seat for his journey as he would not be able to lay prone in his pet carrier. His experience going through the airport was pleasant. As his head was sticking out of the pet carrier, he was seen with smiling and adoring faces by fellow travelers.

The day was started in the normal form, minus Mr. Tank eating breakfast. They are prone to motion sickness so having a full stomach would not be a favorable thing for him in the end. He would rather miss one out of two meals of the day, then to hack up several times along the way. We utilized the pet restroom at both LAX and in JFK before and after the flights. They can hold their bladder for a decent amount of time at this age as long as its not upsetting or the puppy isn't stressed.
Boarding the plane and taking our seats wasn't a hassle with Tank. The takeoff and landing are always alarming, and we are sure to speak calmly to him so he is comforted and not in distress. Directly after our deboarding and now in NYC, we allowed Tank to use the restroom and stretch his legs for half an hour before hand delivering him over to his adoring family. Just as Kong was followed by his family from birth to the current age, the same would be said for the family of Tank. We love our presa canario puppies, and seeing our clients turn to mush when they behold their very own SoCalPresa, is indescribably heartwarming.

Personalities of Presa Canario Puppies Growing Up
Presa Canario puppy development is a beautiful and unique process to watch. In their initial stages of life between the birth and the time before
their eyes open (around day 14) they are very fragile. Unable to shiver and regulate their own body temperatures, they rely on instinct to notice the sounds and smell of their nearby mother to crawl for nurturing and sustainability. This is an amazing thing to witness when they are all raised comfortably in a human domicile. We would watch each and every time the mother would come back into her room of the house where the whelping area was located. She will hover over her babies, take note of their status, then carefully make her way in to rest next to them. Inadvertently her smell takes over the newborn puppy senses and quickly each will awaken and attempt to seek out their mother completely blinded temporarily. This is the time we pay attention the most as she can accidentally smother them or ignore the ones that need more attention to thrive.

The upcoming 3 to 5 weeks are the sweetest times by far. Presa Canario puppies at this age are loving and not competitive of each other. The play fighting is adorable, their love bites are tolerable, and their petite size and playful personalities are second to none. This is the time you can lay in the clean whelping area and try to withstand the random attempts the puppies will make to chomp you to bits. We start exposing them to the outdoors around the 4-week mark as long as the weather permits. This allows them to start their exposure to the new world full of real noises and experiences early. For their life indoors, we have given them an array of virtual sounds to listen to while they live in comfort and warmth. Exposure to these noises and our loving hands creates a bond with us that is further passed on to their future families. Their time outdoors is always closely monitored, as if they get spooked over a situation, it's best for us to be there.
Personalities start to shine even further in the 6-to-11-week mark by nature and nurture. We have done our best up to this point to create a sound mind full of character in each and every puppy in the litter. There will be alphas in the group which will be apparent as they will be the first one to lead into actions that the rest of the pack will follow. This is irreverent to the fierce overall personality of the Presa Canario puppies which absolutely will clash, despite the personality type being alpha, beta, or omega.
The ferocious capability of even the smallest of the pack, can send the largest running for their lives. We have to take extra caution to not let any negative behavior take hold as it can damage the confidence of the other pack members. All of our puppies are treated and trained evenly in order to have the closest outcome as a properly raised Presa Canario adult. Our training at this point has been elevated in increments to the point that they are house trained and will urinate and defecate on command. Protection roles have been given to the pack which they would have executed at least twice a day.
As a team, they will deal with new challenges and encourage each other through the amount of fun they are having. Bite training is done professionally and all done through love, trust and understanding with the Presa Canario puppy, it's being taught as well. The puppy will know to identify the target, bite and release on the first command. Obedience training has been given daily several times which can be exhausting as there can be quite a few puppies in a single litter.
In the end all the love, training and experiences raising a true SoCalPresa Presa Canario is a labor of love. The special attention to care is reverberated through the puppy through its entire life. We love to hear the endless stories of our clients and their raising experiences of their Presa Canario puppy whenever we get the updates. The stories can keep us on the phone for over an hour with ease. Even the somewhat negative (at the time) stories can be hilarious to listen to, and will have both of us laughing for a great extent.

A real life story that has happened which would help surmise the problem: We personally know a set of male Cane Corso dogs that have been trained formally for protection work, that were outside left unattended at night to guard the yard as usual. This was a typical night in the dog’s life and they are free to patrol the yard without any restraint.
In the middle of the night a criminal decided to cut the fence, and attempt to lure them into his truck with a female in heat. The scent of the female was enough for the two trained male to lose sight of their objective, and allow the cutting of the fence.
When the now loose Cane Corso’s were snapping out of their trance they decided to ignore the female in heat, and now go after the perpetrator. The man luckily escapes with his female dog in his truck, and now the Corso’s are on the loose.
Finding their way into random neighborhood they were confused and becoming distressed when a friendly man decided it was a great find, and to invite them into his enclosed gate when again the Corso’s became angry. Scaring the man into his own home where he called the local authorities.
By this time the Cane Corso’s owner understood what happened by looking at his CCTV footage and realizing the break in. Hours later after finally recovering his dogs that were almost stolen, he gets slapped with a fine for having the "loose dogs", and summoned to court where he was requested by the court to have them neutered to ensure they aren’t a harm. This is utterly ridiculous in itself as the spaying or neutering will just marginally affect their aggression.
This vice, is a true issue for all male dogs in any guardian category. To what degree your personal, military or company guardian has this desire is always to be determined. Training with the pheromones present can help curb the desire ever so slightly. But this is not recommended as this can stress them too far by mentally pushing them in two different directions entirely.
Generally, female Presa Canario guardians in heat will not be distracted by an unfamiliar male dog. The roles are not automatically reversed and in reality, many female guardians will only allow the male she "likes" to breed with her. This may not be as general for Presa Canario as this is for our bloodline in particular. We have witnessed our females not agreeing to the male and then fighting or scaring the male into submission. Hence why the "playdates" for our upcoming pairs in natural breeding are essential to their future.

We had the experience to meet with the legendary Odell Beckham Jr. while he was playing for the New York Giants. This respectable gentleman is definitely more than he offers to the public in the best of ways. Looking to obtain his future Presa Canario family member with the help of his loving father Odell Beckham Sr., we were thankful to have a meet and greet over several days while he obtained his three male Presa Canario puppies from our home. Bruno - Jet Black Perro de Presa Canario Stud

Bruno is an incredible specimen and perfect example of a true Perro De Presa Canario. Both parents were imported from Spain, more specifically Tenerife – the oldest Presa Kennel in the world. Measuring in at 27” and 148 lbs, he is a strong, agile, and athletic. His stride is long, effortless, dexterous and graceful. Bruno exemplifies the presa standard of being distrustful of strangers but accepting if the owner accepts, which allows us to take him on several hikes and adventures. He is loyal, protective, and ferocious if his family is in danger. Bruno has an uncanny ability to identify and react to threats. He doesn’t waste his time barking at dogs who do not pose a threat as a watch dog is to alert owners of strangers but a guard dog is to kill them. At a moments notice, he can hop to his feet from a deep sleep to guard the house (we say he never actually sleeps). Bruno’s bark is so threatening, it is the only bark in the neighborhood that will quiet the pack of coyotes that lives on the mountain behind the house. The German Shepard, South African Boerboel and Pitbull do not dissuade these animals, but once Bruno is on guard, the immediate cease any noise and scatter.
Bruno is incredibly intuitive, and can notice a difference in my breathing, an increase in my heart rate, the slightest change to my physical state and will come to make sure I am okay. He is the most loyal and loving creature, and enjoys acting like a big puppy even at 4 years old. Every morning when he wakes up, he is excited to greet the day and get going on his breakfast, hunting game, and morning run. Bruno is very social with those in his network and we love having friends and family over to the house. But don’t come over when Dad isn’t home, as our roofer learned, or even the mere notion that he can at anytime put that 500+ PSI of bite pressure to use coupled with his ferocious bark and stance, is enough to stop any man in his tracks.
Bruno is highly intelligent and displays a great deal of restraint, impulse control, and respect for his owners. Even during the most intense game of tug of war, Bruno is able to stop on a dime when the “drop it” command is given. During walks or off leash sessions, he is constantly making eye contact with his owner to make sure he is in compliance. He does this also when identifying a threat, and always has eyes on those he is charged with guarding. Bruno's manners are impeccable, and he respects all house rules. He does not help himself to the comforts of the couch or bed, as he knows these are off limits, even when we are not in the house.
During playtime and physical activity, it is incredible to witness his display of athleticism. Not overly bulky or bred just for size, Bruno is an athletic masterpiece! He can easily jump fences, scale mountainsides, and face any terrain with ease and confidence. It is amazing to see! Speaking of which, he is incredibly dangerous at night as he is pitch black. You will not see him coming, possibly hear his weighted breath moments before contact. He truly has a cat like prowess and has been mistaken for a panther several times!
Bruno is the best of both worlds, a loving companion and pet, confident and respectful, and at the same time a deadly weapon with unbelievable AI (artificial intelligence) like senses that identify possible threats long before human eyes or ears can. He is our security system, his sheer presence alone deterring anyone from breaking in. But if they did, I know they would never get out alive. However, his ability to control and regulate his drive makes him an amazing companion and family dog! He is such a sweet boy, and still loves cuddling. He is my 148lb lap dog and best friend, who would do anything to defend his family.

The Perro de Presa Canario is a unique breed, mentally and physically. This is truly one that is a direct reflection of their owners, good or bad. This can either result in a liability on your hands or quite possibly the very best dog you will ever own. The Presa Canario is a working line breed with a background for herding large animals as well as guarding their beloved family while accompanying them through their daily lives. This dog breed when properly trained, along with the family in a positive nature gives so much back to them in a multitude of ways. Guarding the children from strangers, or other animals your presa canario is not happy with, is a job that is done with love, dedication, and the precision of a surgeon.
Issues with raising them are common more frequently when the presa canario puppy is left unattended especially without guidance from older presa canario parents, or their human counterparts which would watch them and guide them through the day with the "do's and dont's. In the puppy phases, they are consistently learning. They are learning from their siblings, mother, father, humans, and environment, there will be loads of influence on how your puppy acts when he or she is a fully grown perro de presa canario dog. The puppy is watching and observing the day and obtaining positive or negative reinforcement continuously or on occasion. Your puppies response to this stimulation will be tremendous. This is the time to raise your puppy properly and give them the guidelines for their day that fits along with yours.
Love. This breed is a true love for their humans and expect the same in return. We have seen these dogs raised in a number of situations where they will get much more, or much less attention from their owner or trainer and that helps us deduce the quality of the outcome. We have always determined that the perro de presa canario always does much better when kept very close to the family, loved dearly, and shown the ropes of life properly like a child's first day. Pushed forward with positivity and care, your perro de presa canario will understand slowly what makes you and the family happy and will be there when they notice a shift in your mood for the worse. This incorporation will let them understand they are a true member of your family. They will be there for your every move and push you forward as much as you allow them to.
Training is a must for this large and generally aggressive breed. Mistakes are commonly made with clients through the entire spectrum from hierarchy to feeding and handling. As previously mentioned, they will be a direct reflection of their owner and thus this must be understood and these traits may not be the best well rounded for your life. As an example, rough housing with your presa canario is generally a 'no no' as these guys can be confused by your intentions and can also persist to conduct the behavior with strangers, which can easily lead to a severely bitten person. Respect should always be consistent and never broken as it will mold your presa canario in the best or worst ways. You are showing them that they can either trust you, or watch you and your friends carefully for bad intentions. They are absolutely top of the food chain when it comes to understanding their loved ones and knowing how to please.
Exercise should be incorporated in their daily routine with not only playing, but a proper walk with them by your side. You will notice that your puppy initially will do one of three things; walk in front, in back or right next to you. Walking in front of you will have loads of trainers stating this is a 'alpha move' and they are dominating your walk. This is not always the case as the presa canario could also be nervous and is moving through the course quickly to complete the exercise. Walking behind you will constitute your puppy of being fearful of the situation in which you should assert a level of confidence directly into them. Take your time and be patient with the presa canario puppy understanding their new environment and you as the trainer speaking confidently and lovingly to them along with a confident light touch.
Food, toys and snacks should be taken seriously as developmental issues can occur with a diet to low in nutrients, proteins or carbohydrates. Supplementing the food with loads of extras are always advisable. Something to be aware of is your presa canario may have a harder or more sensitive stomach than others in his or her litter. A completely raw diet is not advisable as the lack of carbohydrates generally given in a raw or 'barf' diet is extremely low which does not suit our particular perro de presa canario bloodline. Toys should be of an extremely tough nature and supervision should be given over your puppy with the new toy until you understand what the puppy can do to it. Rope toys are never recommended as they will shred them and it can entangle in their intestines. Bones should only and always be given in the RAW form. Cooked bones of ANY nature are horrible for them and can absolutely lead to detrimental consequences.
